Paleontological museum of Magliano Vetere
The Museum has four exhibition rooms whose collections gradually introduce the visitor to the Earth science, starting from the origin of the universe.
The major geodynamic processes of the planet, the formation of mountain chains, such as the Apennines, are explained through observation of rocks, tracing the
evolutionary process that led to life on Earth as we know it today. Two exhibition rooms are dedicated to the fossil deposits. One is for the fossils found on the Alburni Mountains (Petina, Ottati), covering a period between 50 and 100 million years; the second is dedicated to the sites of Mount Vesole (Trentinara) and Magliano Vetere (in depht).
In the central room, groups of visitors could walk among a life-size reconstruction of the typical environment of the Cretaceous. Thanks to the diorama, the explanations and the observation of environmental reconstructions, you can clearly understand the fossilization processes, sediments’ formation and erosion of the seabed, as a complement of what has been learned in the exhibition rooms.
Three rooms dedicated to teaching laboratory for students: an opportunity even to attend projection of films and lectures.
