Sant'Angelo a Fasanella

Sant'Angelo a Fasanella is listed in many tourist itineraries thanks to its natural, cultural and gastronomy heritage. The town offers three precious tourism places we suggest you to visit:

St. Michael's Cave
Also known as "the Church in the cave", is located just below the town of Sant'Angelo a Fasanella. The entry consists of a simple portal that, at the base of the two jambs, has the ancient figures of a lion and a lioness. Inside the cave, in addition to the grave of Francesco Caracciolo and the water well, you can admire a high Gothic Aedicule (a small shrine). The deepest underground cave is the chapel dedicated to the Immaculate, on whose altar a wooden frame encloses a painting dating back to the 17th century. All around you can admire the 14th century frescos and sculptures. On the bottom of the cave there is a rich 17th century altar ordered by, as well as the water well and the pulpit, Abbot Fabio Caracciolo. On this altar stands the marble statue of St. Michael the Archangel.

Antece, the Warrior of Palomba Coast
During a walk of half an hour in the Woods you will arrive at Costa Palomba, 1125 above the sea level, where you can see the Antece, a find of incredible importance: it is the Warrior of the Alburni Mountains, dating between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC. It is the ruin of an ancient fortress of which only traces of the city wall remains. Not too far away you can see a sacrificial tub engraved into the rock. The site offers an impressive panorama over the Valley of the River Fasanella and Valley of the River Calore.

The Auso’s spring and waterfall
Trekking in Cilento takes tourists through the Woods up to the waterfall "Auso". Located a few kilometers from the town, you can reach the site through a country lane road known as "Cave of the Auso" because of its suggestive Karst phenomenon. A few tens of metres from the spring, the water (in the past dammed and then conveyed to a mill, now abandoned), jumps from about eight metres with a huge roar in a sea of foam.
We also recommend you to visit the Church of S. Maria Maggiore built in the first decade of the 14th century.
