CAVE OF THE WATER
An easy-level hiking trail along the Masseta coast.

We suggest you to park the car near the Scario lighthouse and then enter the paved trail. You will walk surrounded by olive groves, in country spots where you will find the remains of some rural structures. After 1 km the Mediterranean scrub surrounds you and the sea landscape of the coast opens to you, bringing you back to the Aragonese Age, when the guard towers along the coast date back to.

Along the trail you will see a “carcara”, used to cook lime or to make baked clay tiles. The best attraction of the tour is Grotta dell’Acqua – Water’s Grotto: it is 30 m above the shore line; it is set on a slope and its name comes from the phenomenon occurring in the cave: a steady stream of water that makes springs flow up from the carbonate sediment of the floor. Going on you can reach a very small beach through a steep trail: please pay attention to the incline. Your efforts will be rewarded with the beauty this place.
