Cannalonga is a farm village of ancient origins. It is a perfectly preserved, charming old town centre, with houses that surround an imposing square. The Ducal Palace of Mongrovejo, the most important monument, overlooks the square. It is surrounded by tall towers with a courtyard rich in frescoes and marble statues.
Of great historical and architectural importance are also Casa de’ Ticchio and Torrusio Palace and the churches dedicated to Saint Lucy and Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Cannalonga is 550 metres above sea level, at the foot of Mount Gelbison, with a mild climate. The old town was built in the late Roman – on the banks of the Mennoia torrent lined with rows of reeds (Italian canne) and this gave the name to the town. The panorama from Cannalonga is among the most suggestive of Cilento: the typical Mediterranean scrub, the chestnut trees, and the springs.
It is the perfect Ecotourism destination.
A typical Cannalonga dish is boiled goat meat, main course of you can taste during the festival Fiera della Frecagnola (fiera of Santa Lucia), known throughout Italy
